The world is in this gully.
It is all I know.
High granite walls
And gravel falls,
With the sea sky
Far below.
The world is in this mountain stream
carving its place amidst the rock.
Wind screaming through,
the morning dew
Heavy diamonds
on the moss
The world is on this narrow track
all dirt and roots and stone.
Kauri stand tall
While teardrops fall,
from looming clouds
Gray as old bone.
The world is all before me
From the saddle atop the track.
Vast and constant
and forever changing
With a speed
That nature sometimes lacks.
