'The Piano' - Isy Gibson (Year 10)

For numerous years it sat there

Hidden from prying peepers

Like unwelcome baggage

Or an undesirable fate

It perches feebly on its crippled legs

An unexplored scale and a neglected name

With rotten keys and no door in sight

Not a chance of silvery light

Hammers strike weakly

Worn from the beating

Hitting the withered strings

A symphony rusty and torn

It has seen many sights

And survived dozens of years

Experienced as a Steinway

Old as a white oak

It is the 1000 year old piano
