Without me - Isobel Butler

When today begins without me,

And my chest no longer moves,

And you hear the gentle tapping,

Of the spring rain on rooves,

When the sun rises without me

And my body has gone cold,

And you wrap your arms around me,

But those i cannot hold,

When the records play without me,

And the birds sing alone,

And the house feels empty,

Filled with everything you own,

When the streets go dark without me,

And the lights go out in town,

And your tears have wet your pillow,

Your eyelids falling down,

When your bed is made without me,

And you finally drift to sleep,

And your pillow slowly dries,

From all the tears you weep,

So when today ends without me,

And you rest your weary head,

Just know i paid the devil,

To take me, not you instead
